THE ROLE
As an PLC Software Engineer at Skytree, you will develop (automated) control and electrical systems for the Skytree CO2 capture machines. You will collaborate with internal and external cross-functional teams, conduct analysis, and ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations to deliver innovative CO2 capture machines.
You can leverage your expertise to support our long-term product roadmap, whilst having a hands-on aproach to programming and testing our machinery, including at our Almere assembly site. Some travel may be required, once our solutions get deployed and commissioned internationally. We expect most of the work to take place at our Amsterdam office. We currently use Siemens S7 PLC’s / Step 7 (TIA Portal).
Your experience will help create reliable and efficient electrical / control systems that meet the requirements of our customers and contribute to the overall success of Skytree’s CO2 capture machines.
YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT BY
Leading the design and development of PLC-based automation systems for SkyTree’s innovative CO₂ capture machines
Taking full ownership of the PLC software lifecycle - from architecture, implementation, and testing to commissioning and ongoing support
Developing control logic using FBD, S7 Graph, and SCL, along with WinCC scripting
Integrating field devices and subsystems via Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, Profinet, and OPC UA (server and client)
Collaborating with cross-functional teams (mechanical, electrical, software, cloud) to deliver reliable and maintainable control solutions
Supporting simulation and modeling for system validation, performance testing, and optimization
Preparing clear technical documentation such as user operating manual document, test reports etc.
Driving continuous improvement in automation architecture, software practices, and commissioning workflows
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline
6+ years of experience developing PLC software for complex industrial equipment or machinery
Deep experience with Siemens PLC platforms such as TIA Portal, WinCC, and WinCC Unified
Proficient in FBD, S7 Graph, SCL, and WinCC scripting
Solid understanding of industrial communication protocols such as:
Modbus TCP
Modbus RTU
Profinet
OPC UA (server and client) etc
Knowledge of SCADA/HMI systems, field integration, and industrial networking best practices
Familiarity with functional safety and automation standards (e.g., ISO 13849, IEC 62061)
Proactive, hands-on, and self-motivated engineer with a strong sense of ownership
Based in The Netherlands, or willing to relocate
Open to occasional international travel for commissioning or supplier collaboration
